Melanie Abbott MSW RSW
My name is Melanie Abbott and I am a registered social worker in the Provinces of BC (regular), and Ontario and Nova Scotia (virtual). I am also registered with the First Nations Health Authority in BC to provide counselling through that program.
I have a MSW from the University of British Columbia Okanagan and have worked in Mental Health and Addictions since 2013 in BC and Nunavut. I currently call Whitehorse, Yukon home.
I take a strengths-based approach to counselling, believing that everyone has the capacity for healing and wellness within them. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT). I am a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist (from EMDRIA) with training in conducting EMDR with addictions as well as with military personnel and first responders, and am able to provide this therapy virtually. I have a Trauma Certificate from Wilfred Laurier University. I also have experience working with individuals of the LGBTQ community and am trained to conduct hormone readiness assessments for adults in the Province of BC.
I have particular interest in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, post-partum depression/anxiety, and addictions.
Melanie's registration allows her to provide services to clients who are located in Ontario, BC, Yukon, Nunavut, Nova Scotia and Quebec.
